Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is an integrated body-centered approach that combines neuroscience research and attachment theory principles to effectively treat trauma. Neuroscience explains how the brain processes traumatic experiences. When traumatic events are not processed adequately, it may greatly affect the body and nervous system, causing several somatic symptoms without an apparent organic cause.
While other talking therapies are very helpful for making sense of our experience, body-centered approaches are designed to work on a deeper level, where, according to leading trauma experts like Dr Bessel van der Kolk, the core of the trauma is stored.
Sensorimotor Psychotherapy is a specific treatment for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD and other disorders that may originate from an insecure attachment, like Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
